SINGAPORE: Singapore faces a shortage of engineers, according to a recent job vacancy study by the Manpower Ministry. One way of attracting more youths to the profession is to encourage them to see it as a viable and attractive career while another approach is to attract more women into engineering. Nanyang Technological University (NTU) recently held an outreach program to reach out to the fairer sex. "We really need excellent engineering skills. Why would we omit half the people with these excellent skills?" said Professor Janie Fouke, who is Dean of Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. When business is down, it would be nice to quickly earn some money. You really appreciate a job sometimes after a really hard month trying to reach the same amount in sales in your own company.
